The history of funeral service in Edson and area dates back to 1913 when a flu epidemic swept the area. The local hospital hired a townsperson to bury the victims of the epidemic.

More formally, The Edson Funeral Parlor started business in the years that followed and was known by that name until Liberty and Anne Joy purchased the business from the local owner. The business was then known as The Edson Funeral Home. In about 1955, Liberty and Anne Joy partnered with Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home of Edmonton and operated as Connelly-McKinley Edson Funeral Home until 1978. In 1978, Anne Joy died and Liberty Joy dissolved the partnership with Connelly-McKinley.

EDSON FUNERAL HOME LTD. (The Foothills Memorial Chapel) as it is now known opened for business on January 1st, 1979 with the current owners, Robert and Marilynn Joy.

Liberty Joy died in 1981 after serving Edson and area for more than thirty years in the funeral business.
